Florida Food Management Courses and Food Manager Certification Exams

It's the Law!

The State of Florida requires a Florida Certified Food Manager in most food establishments and restaurants. All food service managers must be State Certified in Safe Food Handling and all food service employees must be trained.

Who Must Comply?

Establishments that are licensed by either the state of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), Division of Hotels and Restaurants or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Food Safety.

SafeFood Management Courses On-line Registration Education Programs is approved by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Division of Hotels and Restaurants for employee training.

Division of Hotels and Restaurants

Florida Statute 509.039 requires certification of all food service managers who are responsible for the storage preparation, display, or serving foods to the public. Must have at least one certified manager on duty at all times. Managers have 90 days in which to successfully pass the required exam after hire date.


Division of Food Safety

Section 5k-4.021, Florida Administrative Code, requires all food establishments, including mobile vendors, licensed by the Department, must have a
certified manager.

Food Manager Certifications are valid for five years.
